Prices on British Airways flights (including BA CityFlyer)

Use our calculator to get a guide price for baggage on an upcoming trip. Prices may change at any time but the price you pay is fixed on your 'ticketing date', which is usually the day you purchased your flights but with some travel agents could be later.

Changes and refunds

If you purchase extra bags online and then change your mind, you can either change or cancel them and request a refund. You must do this online at Manage My Booking before you check in. We're unable to process any change or refund requests after you have checked in, at the airport or once the flight has departed.

  • To change your extra bags, you will need to first cancel your purchase and then make a new one. The new purchase will be made using the current extra bag prices.
  • Purchasing transactions are not complete until they have been authorised by your payment provider and we have sent you a confirmation email.
  • Unless otherwise stated, we will only make a refund to the payment method you have originally used to purchase the extra bag.

Overweight bags with British Airways and BA CityFlyer

Hand baggage

If your hand baggage is over the weight limit, you will need to check it in and it will count towards your checked baggage allowance. If this then takes you over your free checked baggage allowance, or if you are travelling on a hand baggage only (Basic) fare, you will need to pay for extra baggage at the airport rate.

Checked baggage

If your checked bag weighs more than your allowance you may be charged extra at the airport:

Bag weight Charge per bag

If the journey to your destination is on more than one British Airways flight and your onward connection is within 24 hours, or to the first available connecting flight to your destination, then you will pay just one Heavy Bag Charge per overweight bag for the entire one-way journey.

Terms and Conditions

Flights

  • Prices are per one way.
  • Prices for connecting journeys are calculated as follows:
    * within Europe (e.g. Paris to Rome or Edinburgh to Madrid via London) – £65 per bag in all circumstances
    * to/from or beyond Europe (e.g. New York to Mumbai or Glasgow to Bangkok via London) – you pay the price for just one of the flights; where the charges vary, you pay the greater one (e.g. for Glasgow to Bangkok via London, you would pay the charge for the London to Bangkok flight only)
  • Prices are in UK pounds, US or Canadian dollars, and Euros. If you are leaving from a country that uses a different local currency, the UK pounds amount will be converted to the local currency.
  • Online purchase is not available on a few routes due to local airport systems but you will be able to pay for extra bags at the airport. At many airports, including London Heathrow, Gatwick and North America, you can only pay using a credit or debit card. Please check with a member of our staff at the airport to find out if options are available for converting cash to a prepaid debit card.
  • If you use a prepaid debit card, do not throw it away until your travel is complete, even if the card is empty. If we need to refund any costs, we will be returning these to your original form of payment.
  • If payment by cash is still available at the airport, it may incur a commission charge.
  • Pricing subject to seasonal peak increases of up to 20% on the listed online price.
