Travel Compass

The Palace Museum, former home to the 24 Ming and Qing emperors, is also known as the Forbidden City. Completed in 1420 during the Ming Dynasty, it occupies a total space of more than 720, 000 square meters. Apart from the complex of immovable palace buildings, the Palace Museum houses over 1.5 million items or sets of relics.

Located on the east side outside the Zhengyang Gate, the Temple of Heaven was used as a site by emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties to offer sacrifice to heaven and pray for bumper harvests. The northern part of the Temple of Heaven is semicircular while the southern part is square, a pattern representing the ancient belief that "Heaven is round and Earth square".

The Summer Palace occupies 3.008 square kilometers, three-fourths of which is water, mainly the Kunming Lake at the foot of Longevity Hill.Well known for its large and priceless collection of cultural relics, it was among the first group of historical and cultural heritage sites in China to be placed under special state protection.

Badaling Great Wall

The Badaling Great Wall is located in the northwest of Beijing, and it's a pass of Jundu Mountain. It extends in all directions, therefore termed Badaling. The Badaling Great Wall is renowned worldwide, yet it is only the first part of it that was open to the public. Badaling is considered the soul of the entire structure, welcoming tourists from all over the world.

Beijing Zoo

Located on the Xizhimenwai Street, Xicheng District of Beijing, and built in 1906, Beijing Zoo is the oldest public zoo with the largest variety of animals. Officially named "Beijing Zoo" in 1955, it covers an area of 80.05 hectares and is home to around 400 rare species, totally more than 5,000 wild animals.

Beihai Park

Located in central Beijing, Beihai Park is currently the earliest and best preserved classical imperial garden with the most profound culture in China. Built around Beihai Lake, the park covers an area of 69 hectares (including a water area of 39 hectares), and is mainly composed of the Jade Islet, eastern bank area and northern bank area.
