Overweight and Special Baggage

How is overweight check-in baggage charged?

1.Overweight baggage is the excessive portion to the free baggage allowance of checked and carry-on baggage, and should be charged as overweight accordingly.

2.Please fill in the overweight baggage tag when paying overweight baggage charges.

3.The rate for overweight baggage charges with weight concept is 1.5% of applicable one-way economy class ticket on the day of billing per 1 kg, calculated in the RMB currency and rounded up.

Note: in case the baggage is overweight in more than one category, the charges should be added together. For example: the charge for the second overweight and oversized baggage is 450+1000=CNY1450.

What is the difference between baggage based on the piece concept and that of the weight concept?

The weight concept is applied by airlines except those to the United States, Canada and Europe which adopt the piece concept.

Are there any upper limits on the weight of overweight baggage?

Yes.

Max. weight of unit baggage for domestic airline: 50KG

Max. weight of international unit baggage differentiaied by flight course: 45KG for flight courses to the United States and Canada

Max. weight of unit baggage for flight courses to Australia and Dubai: 32KG

Max. weight of unit baggage for other flight courses: 50KG

May I take golf clubs?

Yes.

 • As to the airlines applying weight concept,

—-the charge on golf clubs will be equivalent to that on the corresponding overweight baggage of 6 KG (overweight within 15KG);

—-each passenger is only allowed to take one set of golf clubs charged based on such standard.

—-the lower one between the special charging standard above and common overweight baggage fee shall be applied if the baggage allowance is exceeded when including the golf clubs.

• As to the flight courses applying piece concept,

Golf equipment - the quantity can not be larger than one golf bag, including one pair of golf shoes. The special charging standard for baggage exceeding the allowable weight or size shall be applied. When exceeding the common baggage allowance, the golf equipment shall be charged as 50% of related fixed charges. One passenger is allowed to carry one golf bag charged based on such standard. The excessive amount shall be charged as common overweight baggage.

May I take skis or water skis?

Yes.

• As to the flight courses applying weight concept,

—-the special charge on each set of ski equipment will be equivalent to that on corresponding overweight baggage of 3 KG

—-each passenger is only allowed to take one set of ski equipment charged on such standard.

—-the lower one between the special charging standard above and common overweight baggage fee shall be applied if the baggage allowance is exceeded when including the ski equipment.

• As to the flight courses applying piece concept,

Ski equipment: One pair of skis, two ski poles and / or one pair of ski boots. The special charging standard on baggage exceeding allowable weight or size shall be applied. When exceeding the common baggage allowance, the ski equipment shall be charged 33% of related fixed charge per pax. One passenger is allowed to carry one set of ski equipment charged based on such standard. The exceeding part shall be charged as common overweight baggage.

May I take a bicycle?

Yes. For domestic flights, you may disassemble and pack it for checking. For international flights, you may call the CSN sales service hotline 95539 for more information on declaration.

May I take a violoncello?

Yes, but you have to buy another position for your violoncello.

What should I do if the baggage is overweight or if I want to take special baggage?

When dealing with baggage checking at the airport, your baggage will be weighed. The overweight baggage will be charged according to the standard. Please call the CSN sales service hotline 95539 for solution if you want to take special baggage.

Under what circumstances can surfing or wind surfing equipment be taken?

The surfing equipment belongs to special baggage and it shall be registered or carried with the approval of CSN.

May I take guns used for athletic contests on the plane?

The guns used for athletic contest belong to special baggage and they can be carried on with the approval of CSN.

May I take an electric wheel chair? What should I pay attention to before boarding?

The electric wheel chair belongs to special baggage. You must contact us in advance before taking the flight. We will transport the electric wheel chair if you provide information related to the wheel chair, use up the electricity or disconnect power unit.

May I take a caesium atomic clock?

Caesium atomic clocks belong to special baggage. As it is a precision instrument, you must get the prior approval of CSN before we transport it for you..

May I take liquid food for infants?

No, but you can apply for special food or prepare milk powder on the plane.

May I take raw eggs?

Sorry, you are not allowed to take raw and fresh items on the plane.

Can I take a small oxygen bottle?

Sorry, no equipment containing oxygen are allowed to be brought on the plane.
