Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, referred to as Jiangbei Airport, is one of Chongqing's two civil airports, and is the main base airport of Chongqing Airlines and Western Airlines, as well as the base airport of Sichuan Airlines, Air China and China Southern Airlines. Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is located at Lianglu Town of Chongqing New North Zone in the northeast outskirt of Chongqing, approximately 21km from downtown of Chongqing. It is the fourth largest airport in the West China and one of the three major aviation hubs in Southwest China, and is also one of the five hub airports planned in China in the future.
Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport currently has three terminals, namely, the domestic terminals - T2A and T2B and the international terminal - T1. Its second runway is 3600m long and 45m wide, with the airfield being 4E grade. T2A is located at the south of T2B, with a vestibule connecting the two main buildings. T2A's main floor is 180m wide, while its corridor bridge 220m long and 30m wide. After being expanded, the total area of the terminals reaches 200,000sqm. The two terminals stand side by side, constituting a pair of "sister buildings." After Phase III Expansion Project was completed and put into operation, the total area of the apron is nearly 720,000sqm, including 86 parking stands. In the area between the two terminals, the airport group has built a comprehensive transit center, set up the long-distance bus station, VIP parking lot and tourism distribution center, realizing "seamless connection" between the air and ground at Jiangbei Airport.
In 2010, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport scored a passenger throughput of 15.8001 million, ranking the tenth in China's mainland, and the fourth in West China.
At present, cities at home and abroad connected with Chongqing by air has amounted to more than 80, with more than 130 routes, covering major regions in China (including Hong Kong and Macao), as well as provincial capital cities. At the same time, international routes to Incheon Airport of Seoul in Korea, Narita Airport of Tokyo in Japan, Bangkok in Thailand, Munich and Dusseldorf in Germany, Singapore, Dhaka in Bangladesh and other places have been launched. In addition, it plans to launch the flight routes to Malaysia, Calcutta and other countries and cities, setting up a bridge connecting Chongqing and the world. In recent years, Chongqing Airport has signed agreements with a number of airports on the western highlands in China, launching routes to Tengchong, Baise, Mangshi and other places; and has added flights to Jiuhuang (from 4 flights/day to 6 flights/day), Lhasa (from 6 flightss/ to 8 flights/day) and other airports. In the near future, it will become the best transferring airport for passengers who travel in West China.
Airport bus provides passengers with convenient and fast transit services. It takes 35 minutes to complete the route which is 28km long.
The driving route from the airport to the downtown is: Airport - Palm Springs - Trade Building - Shangqingsi Temple - Coral Park - Shangqingsi Temple (passengers are only allowed to get off the bus along the way, and no boarding is allowed). The departure time is from the arrival of the first flight in the morning until the arrival of the last flight. The bus will depart immediately after being full of passengers. The waiting location is on the left side of the terminal. The driving route from downtown to the airport is: Shangqingsi Temple - Little Swan Hotel - Airport (passengers are only allowed to get on the bus along the way, and are not allowed to get off). The departure time is 6:00 am - 21:00 pm, with one shift every half an hour. Fare: RMB 15.00.
On January 1 this year, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport's long-distance passenger transfer center was put into use. The center is located on the right side of the new terminal, covering an area of 2,480sqm. It can accommodate more than 10 large passenger coaches. The center's passenger station occupies more than 1,000sqm, with a waiting room of 1,500sqm. It is designed to accept a throughput of more than 500 passengers per day. The center was reconstructed by the airport with an investment of nearly RMB 1 million. The transfer center includes the waiting room, an electronic display showing the bus schedule, a waiting room for VIP passengers, ticket office, baggage consigning room, parking lot, dispatching room, security room, broadcast room, medical care room, barrier-free access, service facilities for the disabled, drivers and conductors lounge and other facilities. Besides, it is equipped with a vehicle safety check stand, vehicle cleaning and washing stand, vehicle repair stand and so on, and it adopts the computer ticketing system. This long-distance bus station has the best hardware facilities in Chongqing.
The shuttle bus from Chongqing Jiangbei Airport to Chongqing Wuqiao Airport has been launched. This airport has also launched long-distance passenger bus directly to Zunyi, Tongzi and Chishui in Guizhou Province; JiangJin, Tongliang, Tongnan, Yongchuan, Hechuan, Rongchang, Fuling, Changshou and other 25 towns and counties in the suburbs of Chongqing. Every day, over 50 buses carry more than 600 passengers to and from the airport, achieving "seamless transfer" between the air and the ground.
Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport has a first class lounge and VIP department, but does not have a Sky Pearl VIP Lounge dedicated to China Southern Airlines. (Sky Pearl VIP Lounge will soon be decorated.) The airport's first class lounge has a buffet area, Internet access area, resting area and other functional areas, where the first class and business class passengers of China Southern Airlines and VIP members of Sky Pearl gold and silver card can enjoy the comprehensive and considerate services.
Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport has C1-C8 check-in counters in T2A, while C6-C8 are dedicated for the premium economy class passengers, first class passengers and business class passengers as well as passengers holding Sky Pearl gold and silver card.
