Carry-on Baggage

Domestic flights :

The maximum accepted weight of free carry-on baggage per passenger is 5 kilograms. Passengers holding a first class ticket can carry two pieces of free carry-on baggage; passengers holding a business-class or economy class ticket can only carry one piece of baggage. For every carry-on baggage, each of three dimensions must be no larger than 20×40×55 cm. Items exceeding maximum weight/ size allowance will be accepted as checked baggage.

International/regional flights:

The maximum accepted weight of free hand baggage per passenger is 5 kilograms. The sum of three dimensions of each carry-on baggage must not exceed 115 cm. Items exceeding maximum weight/size allowance will be accepted as checked baggage.

 

Checked Baggage

Domestic flights :

For our national routes, every piece of check-in baggage cannot exceed 50kg and must be under a volume of 40x60x100cm.

International/regional flights:

1.For passengers travelling on China Southern's international or regional flights, or domestic flights connected with them, when the U.S.A. routes are involved, the weight of each piece of checked baggage must not exceed 45KG (90 pounds), and the sum of three dimensions of it must not exceed 158CM (62 inches).

2.For passengers travelling on China Southern's international or regional flights, or domestic flights connected with them, when the U.S.A. routes are not involved, the weight of each piece of checked baggage must not exceed 32KG (70 pounds), and the sum of three dimensions of it must not exceed 158CM (62 inches).

 

Free Baggage Allowance

Domestic flights :

Passengers(adults or children)are entitled to the free baggage allowance as follows: 40 kg for first class, 30 kg for business class and 20 kg for premium economy and economy class. For infant, the baggage allowance is 10 kg.

International/regional Flights:

I. Piece system will be implemented for all international and regional routes as baggage transport rules;

II. Baggage carriage rules for all routes:

1. The tickets of students abroad, contract workers, seamen, emigrants and family visiting passengers need to be indicated with the signs of SD,DL,SC,EM,VF respectively (when the tickets are being issued for special types of passengers, if the flights involve those of AMS or VA (Virgin Australia), the code of special passengers must be input in the column EI; if the flights do not involve those of AMS or VA (Virgin Australia), the code must be input in the column after the column of name);the baggage privilege for family visiting passengers is only applicable to VFR fares, and any region that has not applied for and published VFR fares should implement baggage rules in accordance with the rules for ordinary passengers. When the fares are being calculated according to relevant operating instructions, correct codes of passenger type should be indicated, so that the system can generate corresponding free baggage allowance. Additionally, on the day of departure, the above-mentioned passengers shall go to the check-in counter and show relevant ID certificates.

2. For each infant passenger holding a ticket without a seat, the free checked baggage allowance is 1 piece; the maximum weight of each piece is 10KG (22 pounds) and the maximum sum of three dimensions is 115CM (45 inches); apart from that, one wholly foldable pushchair or stroller is allowed to be checked free of charge.

3. Same free baggage allowance standards for group passengers as for individual ones shall be implemented.

4. If stopover happens during the flight, the free baggage allowance for the whole journey shall be calculated according to the higher standard specified in China Southern Airlines Scheme Concerning Baggage Allowance Piece System for International and Regional Flights. For example, for the economy class flight SYD-CZ-CAN (stopover) -CZ-AMS, the standard of free baggage allowance is 2 pieces for the whole journey, as this flight accords with the baggage allowance rules specified in the China Southern Airlines Scheme Concerning Baggage Allowance Piece System for International and Regional Flights for Zone 1.

5. If the flight of the main portion is the code sharing flight of China Southern Airlines, then the baggage allowance standard shall be implemented based on the following situations: 1) for the code sharing flights through cooperation between Air France-KLM and China Southern Airlines, the baggage allowance shall be implemented according to the rules of marketing carrier; 2) if the portion of journey involves code sharing flights of American waypoints, the baggage allowance shall be implemented according to the rules of marketing carrier; 3) for other code sharing flights, the baggage allowance shall be implemented in accordance with the rules of carriers.

6. Extra free baggage allowance for China Southern Airlines Sky Pearl Club gold card holders, silver card holders, as well as Sky Team elite members and elite plus members shall be implemented according to relevant regulations.

Note 1: Russia Routes refer to the air lines between China and Russia (including part of Europe and Asia).

Note 2: Central and West Asia routes refer to the air lines between China and Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Pakistan, Azerbaijan as well as Georgia.

Preferential allowance

Regarding the free baggage allowance for students abroad, contract workers, seamen, emigrants and family visiting passengers, one extra piece of baggage in addition to the above-mentioned standard pieces for adult passengers is allowed to be carried. Such passengers shall put forward application to the agency or ticket office directly subordinate to China Southern Airlines and provide relevant documents when the ticket is being issued, and then the agency or ticket office shall give baggage confirmation.

Note:

1. The rule that the free baggage allowance for "R" and "X" classes is 1 piece (23kg/piece) is applicable to all types of passengers of all routes, who shall not enjoy baggage privilege for special types of passengers.

2. Special reminder: When the tickets are being issued for special types of passengers

(3)When the ticket is being issued, the person issuing the ticket shall attach the passenger's photocopies of ID certificate (e.g. seaman's book, proof for studying abroad, labor service certificate etc), passport and visa to the back of the bill on the day of ticket issuing for future examination; the ticket issuing units shall notify the passengers to carry the original ID certificates for examination when going through boarding formalities.

(4)For the flights to and from Europe, between Zone 3 and Zone 1 and those between Zone 3 and Europe: if the overweight baggage is a golf bag (1 piece with weight of less than 23KG, then there is no charge for the overweight baggage (only applicable to the flights actually accepted by China Southern Airlines for carriage).

(5)Students abroad refer to Chinese or foreign students who are under 30 years old (excluding 30) and study abroad at regular schools in the countries other than the countries that their nationalities belong to. Such students need to provide the photocopies of their passports and student cards or the photocopy of letter of admission and attach them to the back of the Finance page when purchasing tickets. The preferential baggage allowance for students abroad is only applicable to the fares of flights between the place where the students study abroad and the place where his/her nationality is.

(6)For each infant passenger holding a ticket without a seat, one wholly foldable pushchair or stroller is allowed to be carried as free checked baggage in addition to the free baggage allowance.

SPECIAL BAGGAGE:

Checked Baggage allowance for adult overseas students, laborers, seamen, and emigrants is one extra piece in addition to the regular baggage allowance.

The passenger should request an extra piece of luggage in advance, before the ticket is issued. The agent must confirm the additional baggage request with China Southern Airlines and the correct baggage allowance (regular baggage allowance + 1 extra piece) should be put on an e-ticket. More importantly, the Passenger should be able to provide supporting documents to the agent and China Southern staff upon their request.

REMARK:

1、The free CHECK-IN BAGGAGE allowance for passenger who is holding CZ's "R、X" class tickets is 1 piece(23KG/piece), regardless of class of service or passenger type.

 

Overweight Baggage Charge

Domestic flights:

The rate of overweight baggage charge is 1.5% of applicable one-way economy class ticket on the day of billing per 1kg, calculated in the RMB currency and rounded up.

International/regional flights:

Baggage claim

(一)Domestic flights

1. If passengers’ checked baggage are damaged partly or totally, or lost, the compensation amount per kg shall not exceed 100 yuan. If passengers’ baggage is worth less than 100 yuan per kg, then the passengers shall be compensated according to its actual value.

2. If passenger’s baggage is damaged, CSN will compensate for its lost value or bear the repair expenses. If a passenger’s baggage case is damaged, the compensation amount should be less than 100 yuan per kg of its actual weight.

3. If a passenger has declared the value for the lost baggage already, CSN should compensate according to its declared value. If the declared value is higher than its actual value, CSN should compensate for its actual value.

4. CSN shall not take the responsibility for damages to passengers or their baggage caused by the items inside their baggage. If one passenger's items inside the baggage cause damages to other passengers or their baggage, or CSN property, this passenger should compensate for all the losses of CSN and all the expenses paid by CSN.

5. If one passenger’s items that are prohibited from carrying inside checked baggage are lost or damaged, CSN only compensate under the rules for normal checked baggage.

(二)International flights

According to the Montreal Protocol, destroyed, lost, damaged or delayed baggage in international flights, the compensation limit for each passenger shall be 1131 Special Drawing Rights.

Codeshare flights

Codeshare flights mean that an airline or multiple airlines use their respective codes for other airlines' flights as provided in their agreement. If you take CZ's codeshare flight, you will be subject to rules of the actual carrier on aspects such as free baggage allowance, fee scale for excess baggage.
